Mia's Experiments

Try to do some science and astronomy experiments at home.

The shape of a snowflake

Almost every snowflake is a six-pointed star. This is because snowflakes are made of ice crystals hexagonal in shape. Ice crystals touch each other sideways, and the snowflake grows symmetrically, from the center to the outside.

( Click the picture several times to see how a snowflake is formed! )

Using the template (download here), cut these ice crystals and place them on the board. This way, you will create your own snowflakes! How many different snowflakes are you able to come up with?

If you want, you can stick the crystals to the board. This way, your snowflake won't break.

More experiments will be there soon!
